How to exercise responsibly in hot weather

Tropical temperatures and still want to exercise: how can this be done responsibly? Exercising in the heat is never pleasant, but hot weather does not have to be a reason not to exercise. Whether you want to go running, fitness or mountain biking: it is important to take some precautions! We list a few handy tips so you don’t have to skip your workout!

Drink enough water

Drink at least 2 litres of water. Many athletes find drinking too much during training unpleasant, because of the lumpy feeling in your stomach. Try to spread this out as much as possible, otherwise your body will not absorb it properly. Try to avoid thirst and it is good to drink more water throughout the day anyway.

Avoid the bright sun in the afternoon

Between 12:00 and 16:00, the sun’s UV radiation is most intense. So avoid this period as much as possible!

Choose a chilly location

If you exercise outside, try to do so in the shade as much as possible or go to the gym. There is usually good air conditioning here!

Wear light and airy clothes

Wear airy clothes and no black. This is because black attracts heat and your clothes should be allowed to air through as much as possible, so that

Adjust your training level

Don’t set the bar too high for yourself, your body has a hard enough time as it is. A lighter workout is fine on days like these and this way you won’t exhaust yourself and your body and you will feel fulfilled!
