YOU DON’T EAT THIS, RIGHT?
“By starting FITSHE I hope I will be able to contribute to the active lifestyle of women, for whom being physically fit serves to live life to the fullest.” In her monthly column, FITSHE’s founder Caroline shares her view on living an active lifestyle.
Since I started working on FITSHE about a year ago, it’s a question I hear a lot: “You don’t eat this, right?” People ask me this at parties for instance, when handing me the platter of bitterballen to pass to the next person. Then I surprise them by helping myself to one these greasy, but oh so tasty deep-fried morsels. And you should see their astonished faces when I drink a glass (or two) of wine. Apparently being a female health entrepreneur means never snacking, drinking or even dreaming of such unhealthy pursuits.
To me, living an active lifestyle doesn’t mean always having to limit myself. So while I celebrate the idea of getting out of my comfort zone, and truly believe challenging oneself is crucial for personal growth, being kind and letting loose is just as vital – in order to become the best possible versions of ourselves.
Eating well and training my body – instead of diet and exercise – lets me get everything out of life on a daily basis. And I believe this to be true for everyone. I’m sure my active lifestyle has always helped me push further and get closer to myself. What’s more, learning to fit in moments of play formed the basis for my current challenge: running my new startup FITSHE.
It’s inspiring to see that more women are taking care of their bodies in a healthy way. Yet, we cannot ignore the trend related to the aesthetic benefits of being active – abs are the new boobs, so to speak, with social media platforms like Instagram filled to the brim with women who have (or fake) visible abs and amazing round glutes.
But knowing that 47% of Dutch women feel uncomfortable with their bellies (source: gezondNU) puts it all in perspective. Which is why I’m so proud to introduce you to FITSHE’s 12 ambassadors. For them being physically fit serves to live life to the fullest. It’s not the active lifestyle – or the body that comes with it – that is their end goal. It’s just the beginning. I find every one of these women beautiful, ambitious, strong and inspiring. They strive to get as much as possible out of life and give back with equal amounts of passion.
Living an active lifestyle has a different meaning for each of them. And they all have very different belly-stories to share. So I’m grateful that they’ve been brave enough to share pictures of their tums with me, to bring another viewpoint to the current abs discussion. Throughout the coming month, we’ll share their stories with you too – keep an eye on our Instagram.
You won’t be surprised, then, that this first digital edition of FITSHE magazine is all about the ABsolutely FABulous. Enjoy reading tips and tricks by nutritionist Stefanie, learn more about training routines for your core from physiotherapist Annemarijn and enjoy the personal interview with stylist Saskia van der Linden.
