EAT & TRAIN INSTEAD OF DIET & EXERCISE
“By starting FITSHE I hope I am able to contribute to the active lifestyle of women for whom being physically fit serves to live life to the fullest.” In her column, FITSHE’s founder Caroline shares her view on living an active lifestyle.
Ok, let’s get personal here. I used to be one of those girls who pushed herself to run that extra mile, do one more squat, or crush some bonus Jumping Jacks. This can easily be regarded as an ambitious or as a fighting mentality – “Wow, look at her: challenging herself!” I hoped people would see me like that. But looking back this behaviour had everything to do with punishing myself and with the negative perspective I had regarding my body and my overall self. I wanted my body to be more shaped, more skinny, more this or more that. Like many women, I was harsh on myself when it came to how my body looked.
Move that body
I have always been active. During my youth, I danced and I did horse riding. I loved both of these sports. Not because of the effect they had my body, but because they energized and challenged me (in a good way), and I simply had a lot of FUN! Sport has never left me, but its meaning has changed. During my studies, it was a way to compensate for my unhealthy lifestyle and once I started working it became a crucial part of my life – helping me to clear my mind after a long day at the office.
Make the shift
It was only during my third job – where I was able to train once per week with a personal trainer – that I learned the true reason for being fit. I found out that in order to be able to play big and get everything out of life, I needed to have a fit, healthy and strong body. Being in good shape turned out to be the starting point instead of the endgame.
Suddenly my body – and the state it was in – became an asset instead of a liability. And the better I took care of it – through healthy eating, exercise, and sleep – the slower its depreciation would be (to stick with a financial comparison).
I am very excited to introduce you all to Nurdin – the personal trainer who made a big difference in my life and gave me the tools to make the shift from diet & exercise to eat & train. I am very proud FITSHE can welcome both Nurdin and his girlfriend Barbara as our new ambassadors. Barbara and Nurdin are the ultimate fit couple. Every month they’ll share new tips and tricks on how to change your behaviour and make shifts like the ones I just shared with you.
